ASK COACH LANI: I’ve applied to over 100 jobs and I’m tired.

Question:
Do I really need to revise my resume for every job I apply to? I’ve applied to over 100 jobs and I’m tired.

Answer:
I hear you and understand that applying in this market takes significant effort. It makes sense that you would be tired and frustrated.

Short answer, yes, you do need to tailor your resume. But you should not be starting over every single time.

If you’ve applied to over 100 jobs and you’re not getting results, that’s not an effort problem. That’s a strategy problem.

What I want you to do is simplify this.

Have one strong base resume with all your experience and results. Then create a few focused versions depending on the type of roles you’re going after.

From there, you’re just making small tweaks. Maybe your summary, a few skills, or adjusting language to match the job posting.

That’s it. Not a full rewrite.

Because the goal is to make it easy for someone to quickly see that you fit the role. If your resume is too general, it’s easy to skip over.

And also, let’s be honest. Applications alone are not carrying people right now. If that’s your only approach, you’re going to stay stuck in that cycle.

So yes, tailor your resume. Just don’t overcomplicate it.

Work smarter, not harder.
