Young, Black and Talented: This Future Mogul Is All About Her Business!

Arica Scott is a mogul in the making. This rising North Carolina-based college sophomore (Winston-Salem State University) has already started building generational wealth by starting multiple businesses before the age of 21. She has accomplished more than many new or young entrepreneurs and is showing no signs of stopping. Her most recent endeavor, the You Love Selfies Museum, is on-trend to further elevate her brand and her legacy. She’s a force and a BOSS to be reckoned with. Let’s meet her.

What or who inspired you to be an entrepreneur at such a young age? What motivates you to keep building?

My mom definitely inspired me to become an entrepreneur. Growing up, I watched my mom succeed in multiple business endeavors and it was like “Wow, I could do that”. I also grew up around the social media era, where people began to brand themselves and start businesses by using platforms such as Instagram, Snapchat, etc. I figured that I could definitely do that due to the fact that I was always on social media. What motivates me to keep building is how far my brand has grown throughout the years and the people who have supported me through it all.

Tell us about each of your business endeavors and where you are based.

So Glossy Cosmetics is the cosmetic line I launched during my sophomore year of high school. I launched So Glossy with five glosses (Iconic, Mad Hater, #Goals, Couture, Icy Girl) that are vegan and long-lasting. Since then, I have added eyeshadow, brow pomade, and other products to the brand.

“Bag Talk: 21 Ways to Secure the Bag” is the book I launched during my senior year of high school. It is a guide for young entrepreneurs who would like to start a business and includes 21 business tips. @BAGTALKBYARICA on Instagram also provides tips on entrepreneurship, entrepreneur lifestyle, and also mental health tips.

You Love Selfies Museum is the selfie museum I just recently open in Crabtree Valley Mall, Raleigh, NC. You Selfie Museum include 21 different scenes to take photos, make TikToks, and create content. There is also a dressing room if you want to have an outfit change during your photos!

We know everyone likes a good selfie…, young and old…but what made you decide to launch a brick-and-mortar location so everyone could live out their selfie dreams in person?

I decided to open You Love Selfies Museum because during the pandemic I saw the growth of TikTok. I was on TikTok prior to the pandemic and it was mainly an app for people around my age. Now fast forward, EVERYONE is on TikTok, all ages. I felt like it would be cool if people could have a place just to have fun, take selfies, and make TIktoks. I also noticed that there weren’t really any places for content creators to go and make content for their platforms.

Are you completely involved in each of your businesses from concept to launch and the day to day duties?

I am completely involved in each of my businesses from the packaging, to creating work schedules, and coming up with new scenes for You Love Selfies.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

This is a question I always have trouble answering because it’s always been hard for me. I never really put a time date on things because I feel like what you might think you will accomplish in 10 years; you might be able to accomplish next year. A year ago, from today, I would have never thought that I would have a store in one of Raleigh’s top malls

What does being a BOSS mean to you?

Being a BOSS to me means having your priorities together and to remain working on yourself. I feel like it also means having a nice aura to and being grateful for the things you have accomplished.

What did you learn from your first business start that you were able to apply to your most recent?

Something I learned from my first business startup I was able to apply to my most recent would be to believe in my product and don’t be afraid to stand my ground.

You seem to be on the pulse of what’s popular. So, what’s next for Arica?

I already know what’s next for me but it’s a surprise! But to give a hint, I’m a really big gym rat so it will be something for the fitness lovers.
