WHO IS SHE? – Dr. Lisa T. Lewis

Dr. Lisa T. Lewis is a Coach, Speaker and Author who combines her personal knowledge, faith and training with over 30 Years of Leadership & Management and shows single mothers who are also juggling careers how to “provide abundantly and effortlessly for their families so that they can achieve their personal and professional goals without stress or guilt.”  Let’s meet her…

What led you to becoming a coach and speaker? Was this after your career in Finance or did you venture out while still working?

It’s like, what came first, the chicken or the egg?  Coaching and speaking were congruent with my career in Finance.

I’ve been a speaker since I was able to talk, honestly.  Most of my report cards from kindergarten through high school had some reference to my talking and social skills.  “Lisa is a real leader in the class and amongst her peers.”

I was also raised in the church and consequently had more than my fair share of opportunities to sharpen my public speaking skills. A by-product of speaking in church and being a leader in my peer group I was coaching and mentoring before it was a ‘thing’.

When I began progressing in my career, I served as a professional mentor to other entry-level employees wanting to do the same.  Part of my improvement process includes learning from industry leaders such as John Maxwell.  I became a certified John Maxwell Coach, Teacher, and Speaker.  I also earned a personal development and executive coaching certificate.  Tools in my tool chest to better serve my clients.

I started my entrepreneurial pursuits while still working.  Gratefully, I was asked to speak at various events.  Speaking opportunities turned into being asked to mentor/coach.  Because I’m only one person, group coaching and training were created to reach the masses.

When did you write your first book?

I used to write one-act plays, short stories and poetry as a teenager.  However, the first book I wrote and published was “S.H.I.N.E. and WIN: Five Keys to Conquer the Fear of Failure” by L.T. Lewis in 2016!  It’s hard to believe it was that long ago.  But that book was the door that has led to me contributing nearly a dozen anthologies and officially launching my coaching practice and professional speaking.

Tell our readers about your most recent book and how single mothers can succeed and balance their careers and personal lives at the same time?

My most recent book, “Single Moms Guide to Love and Money: Five Keys to Unlock Both” is a courageous confessional.  I say that because as a single mother myself, I found it challenging to admit that I wanted a balanced life with love and money.  You can order a personally autographed copy at SingleMomsGuide.VIP.

After I addressed my belief system around succeeding in my love life and my career choices, I took practical steps to manifest it all.

As a single mother, it was common for me to put everyone else’s needs and desires before my own.  I felt the guilt of a marriage that did work.  I felt the weight of being the custodial parent of two children and primarily financially responsible for them.  I grew up with both of my parents in a middle-class home.  I didn’t want my children to lack anything because of the choices I made.

Amid raising my children and climbing the career ladder professionally, I recognized that I was last on my list of things to do if I was on the list at all.  In my desire and effort to be the best version of myself, I needed to achieve a healthy balance.  I needed to put myself back on the list, in fact, at the top of the list.

When I achieved the balance, I became a better version of myself. I became a better mother to my children, a more confident businesswoman, and a better human.  I saw the fruits of my labor and they were good.

I wanted to share those lessons with other single moms.  It is possible.  Because I did it, they can too.

The book not only points the way but has practical application to manifest the successful balance of love and money in their own lives.  In fact, my 80-year-old Aunt, who has been married for more than fifty years, read my book.  She called me and said, “Lisa, this book really isn’t just for single mothers.  I got so much out of the book, even at my age.  You should really say this book is for women period.”  What a compliment!

Rinse and repeat.

How did you develop your Belief System training and what is its overall mission?

Few people know that I am also an ordained clergy.  My Belief System training was developed from working with individuals in the Christian faith space as well as the corporate space.

First, it didn’t matter what a client was working to achieve, it fell into one of two categories: personal (love) or professional (money).

Second, on the path forward to successfully reaching a goal a pattern emerged.  Success requires addressing the belief system and narrative one feeds themselves concerning faith, fitness, finances, family/friendships, and festivities.  Get the book!!

My mission is to reach and serve as many single mothers as I can with the belief system training.  I want them to have the tools they need to put success on repeat, so they fully enjoy their lives with or without a partner.  I want them to be the best mother, the best income earner, and the best human they can possibly be.

My dedication to this mission is why I trademarked The Belief System Boss®.  The success training has been time-tested and proven.

You are a prime example of success in action as you worked your way up from entry-level to management level roles. When you look back, did you think you were balancing it well from the beginning or was it a balancing act that you found yourself constantly working on as you progressed in your career?

I absolutely was NOT, balancing my career success journey well from the beginning.  I did a TEDx Talk, “Progressing and Pampering While Parenting Awakening Possibility” highlighting the idea of balance that emerged as a result of my quest.   Early in my career, I was at a stalemate.  I wasn’t progressing at the rate I determined I needed to in order to be able to provide well for my children.

Balance is a constant work in progress, a lifestyle.  In 2019 I was diagnosed with Cancer.  I had multiple surgeries a part of my healing journey.  The balanced belief system lifestyle is what helped me in my fight to conquer cancer.  I still worked.  I still spoke, coached, created YouTube videos, and so on.

I live what I preach, teach, and coach!  Rinse and repeat.
