Try as they might, it’s difficult for companies to figure out what millennials are all about. The times are changing and our shopping habits are evolving along with the technology, and the ones making the most use from our readily-available culture are the younger generations. But it’s not just the way we purchase things that’s being transformed – it’s the attitude towards purchasing itself. From the continuous threat of the global warming to the rise of capitalist practices in our society, millennials are seeing things differently now and the brands are trying to adjust. So, what do the ladies think and what are thoughts and attitudes about shopping in today’s age? Let’s find out.

They spend a lot of time making a decision

While the research says that millennial women spend an hour daily on online shopping, this average is kind of skewed by the fact that they don’t always seem to end up buying something. They browse, compare prices, and then take their time to make their decision, sometimes even postponing it for a week. This is made easy by the fact that they’re not in an actual store, no one’s standing over their head, and they’re not inconveniencing the store worker by taking a long time to pick something out. While this kind of luxury can allow us to save a lot of cash and really find the best item, it also leads to a lot of indecision.

They wait for a discount

Sales and discount codes are a common thing today, and a lot of ladies seem to be savvy enough to wait for something to come their way before committing themselves to paying full price. They’ll bookmark an item they like, then wait for the price to drop.

They love sharing their purchase ideas with friends and family

Nothing better than sending a link of a cute shirt from an urban store such as Urban Sport to your friend and having them respond with “That would look so good on you!” When they’re going to physical stores, millennials like to take their friends, but they don’t forget them even when they’re shopping on the internet. After all, when you find really good sexy bikinis online, you’re eager to share them with your best friend and start planning for a weekend beach getaway. It’s a nice way to still retain that social aspect of shopping even when we’re not doing it at the mall.

They prefer “green” brands

Say what you want about millennials, but the large majority of them do seem to care about the environment and they prefer their fashion to be eco-friendly, if possible. They’ll shop at second hand stores, look for brands that make garments out of sustainable materials, and only deal with companies that run ethical supply chains. Undergarments and lingerie are especially important, and a lot of ladies shop for women’s underwear made out of bamboo fabrics because it’s not only more comfortable, but better for the environment as well.

They often indulge in the “treat yourself” trend

Most millennial ladies actually work hard and often have to juggle careers and family life, so retail therapy is one of the more common ways to relax and reward themselves. While this can be a completely valid thing to do if done occasionally, the trouble lies in overindulgence and creating spending habits that can’t be sustained over a longer period of time. If stress is getting to you, it might be wise to think of different ways to unwind that won’t leave you feeling guilty.

They listen to influencers

While influencers have the biggest say in the beauty industry, fashion still has its own share of Instagrammers and YouTubers that share advice on what kind of purchases to make and how to dress to be trendy. Brands are investing in sponsorships with them, and if you want some to look at people trying on clothes and giving you the rundown on why a garment is good or not, here are some people that you can follow.

Today’s market offers us a lot of variety and pretty much anyone can find something to suit their taste. Our only advice here is to do your best to be a smart consumer and to support brands you really believe in. You’ll save money, learn to be more responsible, and altogether have better purchases.
