She’s The Consumer: Episode 5 (Rental Series) My Rent IS Going UP and other Reasons to Sleep in my Car
Well, the time has come to renew my lease. For maybe 45 minutes I really thought,” I have to get out of here.” And then I came to realize I am too exhausted with life to move. This pandemic and inflation have already and will continue to increase our homeless population soar.
Of course, in the Lease Renewal Reminder, they mention all the “upgrades” and of course you already know how I feel about those and see the quality of that work. They also announced this week that clubhouse renovations would be starting this week and we would no longer have access to that or the gym. I will be investing a new exercise mat so I can continue my virtual personal training in my apartment while this is going on. They also mentioned that they are trying to work out a deal with the local Planet Fitness so we can go there until renovations are done.
I will be starting an online class for a certification I want next month and the thought of packing up again and rushing to find somewhere in the midst of that just gives me a headache. So, it’s another year of rental life for me. But first thing next year I will start looking and hopefully costs will recede and homebuying will actually be more affordable again. Or maybe I need to buy lottery tickets….
*update –While initially I thought it was going up $300 its actually more like $100. The original announcement stated the new base rate did not include any extra fees so by the time I added back the valet trash etc. I was looking at $300 but in the end they were already included. Whether renting or buying, everything is high so the saga continues!
