Dr. Pearl Pugh’s passion is built on a foundation of faith and helping others by creating avenues for individuals and the communities she serves to access the resources they need to thrive. All while juggling her a flourishing career and family. Overcoming her own fear and rejection has given her the expertise to pour the same into others. Let’s meet her.
Tell us where you are located. Did you grow up there as well?
I am currently located in Severn, MD with my husband and our two sons. I was born and raised on the south side of Chicago, IL by my single mother.
Why is education, in any capacity, important to you and how did your mother or other women in your life influence you to excel?
Education for me was an outlet to experience something more. Leaving Chicago to attend the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff was one of the best decisions I could have made for myself. Being away from what was comfortable to me allowed me to grow and stretch. I was afforded the opportunity to network which led to life changing opportunities. I wouldn’t be who I am today if it was not for strong women. My Mom and My Aunt are second to none. They held me down every step of the way. Every time I called home they were there letting me know that God has me and I can do it. Quitting was not an option.
On the other side of entrepreneurship, you also have a successful career. How do you balance it all along with life at home and make sure that you are being fed spiritually as well so that you can continue to thrive?
God is the foundation for everything I do. I can do nothing without God and I would not be where I am if it wasn’t for him. I’ve learned that as long as I keep God first he will always lead and guide me to where he would have me to be. I never thought that I would have the influence I currently have. However, it’s not for me, it’s all for his glory. My faith in God and my family keep me grounded. I am truly nothing without them. I am able to balance having a husband, children, ministry, work, my business, my foundation, and my sorority because of my village.
Tell us about Treasures of Pearl and the Treasured Pearls Foundation. What was the fire that they were created to put out?
I launched Treasures of Pearl in 2019 with a passion to create a one of a kind shopping experience. I had a strong desire to create a synergy between crafting and fashion. Everyone deserves something beautiful, which is what I sought to create. Treasures of Pearl is truly a woman’s one stop shop for Cute, Comfy, and Classy attire. After launching the boutique I was reminded that I had a responsibility to give back and help someone else in need. This is how The Treasured Pearls Foundation was birthed. The Treasured Pearls Foundation mission is to provide resources and tools for postsecondary education and empower the community by meeting needs to overcome hardship. As part of its commitment to giving back within the community, The Treasured Pearls Foundation, strives to develop and administer a variety of educational, research, and training initiatives.
Why do you think it’s important to give back and pour into others?
My Motto is ”Succeed. Educate. Empower.” Once you master something, make sure you reach back and educate others so they can do the same. We have all been in a position where we have needed another person, so why not help. Just think if you show one person a trade, that could change their life forever. My mom always told me “if you can help someone in need, do it!”
