This Learning Advocate Promotes Empowerment

Sindy Eugene is an advocate for students, the communities they live in and the parents who are preparing them for today’s world. She is one of co-authors of The Art of Activation. Let’s meet her..

Tell us about the springboard that launched your platform of realigning communities to greatness by targeting our youth and parents and engaging them to succeed? I was ignited to pursue my passion because:

1) My childhood experiences of not having the much needed support academically and/or socially; 2) Witnessing first hand the limitations within the programs I was privileged to working with or for over 13 years; 3) I had a burning desire to be a part of the solution.

What do you see as major differences in the children and parents of your youth compared with those of today-positive and negative? The youth who have gone through our programs are: better prepared to cope with life challenges, able to transition successfully from secondary to post secondary education and able to navigate successfully through the college system to achieve their scholastic goals and dreams.

Tell us about Global Youth Empowerment Movement Inc and My V.O.I.C.E Matters International and how they each aid in your endeavors. Global Youth Empowerment Movement Inc provides programs that’s to motivate all participants as they strengthen their today while securing their tomorrow. Our resources will positively impact their lives academically, socially and developmentally. Our services are designed to meet those needs while enabling us to add value and support them as they transition to becoming future leaders in our community. My V.O.I.C.E. Matters International provides a framework to offer academic support services through our partnership programs. Together, both entities serves as all things to all families but we are not in it by ourselves.

How did you get the name “The Student Pathfinder?” To be quite honest, the name “The Student Pathfinder” was given to me through prayer after taking a branding course.

Can you share with us your educational background? I have a BA Degree in Psychology and MS Degree in Higher Education from FIU along with a MS in Religious Education from Liberty University

Did you work with any organizations- prior to founding your own- that you found helpful to your cause or was there something missing that lead you to create your own? Yes I have worked with several organizations prior to establishing my own. Many of these organizations if not all were and are still doing amazing things for students and or the parents in spite of the many limitations they have. However, it is the limitations that sparked my desire to create Global Youth Empowerment Movement where we focus on the family as a whole.

Tell us about your contribution to The Art of Activation as well as your newest personal book release titled 12 Steps to Bridge the Gap Between You and Your Child. I am one of the 24 remarkable authors who came together to provide you with action steps to success, no matter what success looks like for you: success in business; attaining wealth, having loving and harmonious relationships; helping the less fortunate; or your personal health and wellness. My chapter titled “Building Family From The Heart” is written to help you break free from past hurts, set backs, pains and struggles as you F.O.C.U.S. on the future, destiny, career, life and family you desire. I then take you on a journey to activate you to building a family from the H.E.A.R.T.

12 Steps to Bridge the Gap Between You and Your Child is a book filled with steps, solutions and resources to help close the relational gap between you and your child(ren) by: 1) identifying and addressing those barriers that negatively affect your family unit; 2) providing you real life solutions to real life challenges. 3) companion journal for you to capture your success as you apply each step weekly on your 12 week journey. This journal will afford you the opportunity to leave a legacy of strategies used by you for your child when they become a parent.

Other than your own, what other contribution did you like or identify with the most or felt strongest about? The other contributions outside of my own that I felt the strongest about was the chapter titled “Spiritual Electricity: Good Things Comes to Those Who Pray” and “When Life Throws You a Curve Ball, Catch it”.

Do you see any children’s books in your future directly targeting issues our youth today may be facing? I absolutely see children’s books of all sorts specifically in the areas of identity, communication and self love.

What do you find more challenging…writing your own or contributing to another? Were there any challenges you encountered during either? To be honest, there are challenges in both writing your own book and contributing to another. You see when writing your own, you do not have the limitations such as word count or graphic designs etc. The good side of that is you solely have to concentrate on your portion and everything else is done and that helps you to remain focused. When writing your own book alone, you are the only decision maker for everything. This means that you have creative control over everything. Both experiences were quite interesting and taught be a lot. To be honest, I would recommend that all those seeking to become an author try both.

What advice would you give to first time authors who want to get their message out? Just start writing the manuscript to get the information or words out of your head. From there, pray for clarity, solicit forwards, invest in an editor and do not be afraid to spend the money needed to get what you want done.

To finish up, tell us what message do you want women to walk away with after reading The Art of Activation? The Art of Activation is not just any regular book that you just read for the pleasure. Instead, it is a book to read for encouragement, insight, empowerment and hope.
